Hedgerows are critical for biodiversity, providing a home, food and protection to a wide range of species. They are declining across the UK and 1/3 are in a bad condition.
At Horsenden Farm in Ealing, NW London, the team are planting hedgerows to provide:
- stock proofing
- fruit for animals and produce such a syrups and jams
- habitat for wildlife.
Here is a little background about hedgerows: why they are critical to biodiversity, act as carbon sinks and provide critical flood protection.
I would love to hear if you know about wonderful, species rich hedgerows in your part of London, or to encourage you to get/encourage planting.
